needed a Copernican revolution on the "standard order " issue

Drees' chapter 5, "Mystery in an intelligible world" has a section :"Pan-experientialist naturalism" pp. 91,92,
His opening sentence to the section is ,"There is a 'standard order' from lower to higher among the major sciences.....physics- chemistry-biology-neurosciences-psychology". He says "physics offers..the most basic view of reality" and "atoms have no sentience" and "sentience [arises] at higher levels [i.e. after evolution has produced atoms which Drees tells us have "no sentience".]
Drees notes that Whitehead's "actual entities" have some "freedom,sentience and subjectivity" and that these are "among the basic ingredients at the most fundamental ontological level". Note that Dress correctly recognizes by his use of "ontological level" that his "standard order" is a philosophical postion. It is not science.
Dress gives the reader no awareness that as early as 1905 Whitehead was sceptical of the adequacy of a materialistic, mechanistic ontology for understanding physics. From about 1912 - 1922 he developed a philosophy of science that recognizes that for both quantum mechanics and relativity (the two revolutions in 20th century physics)it is very plausible to treat events (quanta of organized energy) and not chunks of dead matter as the actual entities in the universe.
By 1925 (in "Science and thr Modern World") Whitehead is ready to use the hypothetico-experimental method of science to hypothesize that for both atoms and human experience organismic events are the most fundamental units of reality.
When this scheme is further developed in "Process and Reality" one is able to offer a solution to the mind/body problem, and the wave/particle issue in physics. Wave and particle are abstractions from more concrete events involving electromagnetic phenomena. The notions of society of events and societies of societies are useful in recognizing that mind and body ( or mind and matter) are also abstractions. Whitehead's "Fallacy of Misplaced Concretenes" is a useful device for recognizing situations in which abstractions are treated as if they were fundamental ontological entities.
Drees ends his section with : "..not considering it likely that understanding is improved by turning the [standard order] upside down, I will not consider such a modified naturalism in the remainder of this chapter.". Recall Drees' standard order is a philosophical speculation and not even acepted science. If Drees had been alive at the time of Copernicus and then Galileo would his advice have been, "Forget Copernicus. His view "turns the accepted order upside down". Stick with the earth-centered view which is the view of the majority ."
